Japanese Wedding Dress Designer Yumi Katsukra's Designs Shine at

The Japanese designer started her business in 1964 in Japan then came to the United States in 1981, where her designs were popular amoung the high end American stores, including Henri Bendel, Saks, and others . Her designs did well during the 1980s and 1990s in her Madison Avenue store. Following the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, she closed her New York store, but continued to show her designs in Europe and Japan. In 2011, she launched the Yumi Katsura brand for North America in a runway show during New York Bridal Fashion Week. Three of the 25 dresses in her show are made either entirely or partially of Japanese papers called Washi. Those three were shown at Paris Haute Couture Collection in January 2012, a show in which Yumi Katsura participates every year.
